About the artist
Hannah Owens is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter based in Fremantle. She has a diverse background of musical writing, including concert music, contemporary folk, jazz and ambient soundtracks. Her passion for the performing arts and arts media has led to numerous collaborations with dancers, theatre producers (WA Youth Theatre Company's, 24hr Play Generator), film makers, game designers and award-winning animators & visuals artists, like Nina Dakin, Robin McMahon and Coda Owens. When she isn't busy composing, Hannah's performing around Perth as singer songwriter, Call Me Charlie.
Hannah has worked with a variety of talented artists, including Freehand's lead singer Goldie, award winning jazz bassist Cass Evans-Ocharen and 2022 Warrana Prize winner, violinist, Yasmin Omran. She has an unshakeable stage presence, having performed for an audience of over 5,000 people at the 2018 Student Strike for Climate Action. She is also very engaged within the WA music community, being a three-time finalist for the Act Belong Commit: Fairbridge Festival Quest song-writing competition, and a recipient of the Nanga Music Festival Youth Scholarship in 2019. She has aspirations for strengthening the West Australian arts community by connecting WA artists through generating works like "The Gradient Project", involving over 40 Western Australian animators and musicians. This was a year in the making of scripting, storyboarding and composing, to deliver a live performance of the score to a 20 minute pilot episode for an animated fantasy series, titled Gradient (conducted on the night of the 19th of November 2021 by Hannah herself). This project doubled as Hannah's third year composition recital for her Bachelor of Music Composition and Technology at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She will be graduating from her degree at the end of 2022, having also completed a Diploma of Music Industry in the "Music Artist" stream in 2018. |
